We had discussed what we should give you this National Day… Finally, we decided to give you something light-hearted and hopefully it will cheer you up and give you inspirations for your business or work. We have the European Union in the global market, however if you come to Singapore, you will find the “International Union” consisting of different races and creed working together in harmony. Many would agree with me that it would be very difficult for anyone on the street to identify who the Singaporeans are and who aren’t, because in Singapore, everyone who acts with goodwill would be welcome and would find acceptance in our lovely Garden City. If you are coming to visit us to celebrate National Day - which is going to be a real big party for all Singaporeans, here are some simple tips to help you to integrate into our culture: If you have a “young heart”, instead of coming with a tour group, you may plan your own tour by arranging your own places of visits and tour Singapore with your own schedule. You may just need to get a tour agency in your country to book for a hotel and air-tickets. You do not need a tour guide in Singapore, because everywhere in Singapore could be accessed easily via MRT Train and Bus or Taxi.
If you are less adventurous, you may make arrangements with the Hotel you stay for day or night tours which would cost you less than SGD 40.00 for each adult.
It is practically impossible for anyone in Singapore to lose their way because there are many people on the streets and you could easily find a kind soul to direct you if you have made a wrong turn to your destination. Many Singaporeans are kind and warm and it just pains us to see someone searching desperately for your destination. Sometimes, you may find an angel approach you even before you ask. 8-)
There is no problem in finding food and drink when you are hungry or tired, because there are plenty of food courts or coffee shops around. Food is something all Singaporeans can boast about, because of our multi-cultural background, we have hawkers from various cultural backgrounds to cook and sell different kinds of cuisines everywhere in Singapore. As many Singaporeans are very health conscious, our genius chefs would need to cook the food with minimal fat, salt, MSG and other unhealthy additives and yet able to produce delicious food.
When you arrive at a food court and could not decide what to eat, you may make your rounds and approach anyone who seems to enjoy his food very much. It is likely for him to tell you what’s so good about the food that he is eating and make good recommendations on others if he is not too busy. It is perfectly normal in Singapore to talk to a kind stranger and to share the same table while eating. Thus, one who has a sincere disposition and a beautiful smile would have the diplomatic advantage. 8-)
Similarly, in Singapore, anyone could easily cooperate with another in buying goods if you could get a good discount when buying in bulk. We would always go for the “win-win” arrangements.
You may want to avoid going to the “red-light districts” after 6pm to avoid possible undesirable encounters.
Most Professionals in Singapore don't frequent Night Clubs & Pubs, as we always have our own gatherings in our office premises or at home. We don’t eat excessively & alcohol are consumed only sparingly, probably only during the Christmas and New Year Seasons, as we are very interested in keeping fit. 8-)
You would be our most welcome guests if you could do whatever you can to help to maintain our beautiful Garden City.
